FROM JERUSALEM TO ALMANCIL : PENTECOST 2025

On the evening of Sunday 8th June in the Jardim das Comunidades Almancil something very special happened. People of different nationalities, cultures, traditions and tongues met together in unity to commemorate Pentecost, the arrival of the Holy Spirit here on earth and often referred to internationally as the birth of the Christian Church.
Hosted by Christ The King Anglican Church and based on the Thy Kingdom Come prayer initiative the local community and local churches of all denominations gathered together in prayer, worship, praise, music and to share the gospel in celebration of the very first Pentecost over 2000 years ago in Jerusalem.
Voices were raised in English. Portuguese, Spanish, Nepalese and Romanian. Each church taking a part of The Lord’s Prayer and focusing on the words to form the basis of their communal prayers.
Songs were sung in a variety of languages – sometime at the same time – but always with great enthusiasm, and as a full moon rose over the park and the lights were turned on the Congregation joined together as one, holding hands with their neighbours of all ages and spontaneously voiced The Lord’s Prayer in their mother tongue. The words carried far across the lake and the Park and was a glorious end to a magical evening.

It is our hope and prayer that people will see and hear us and want to find out more” said Revd Steve Chisholm, Rector of Christ the King Anglican Church.
“This year we are so blessed to be joined by Local Pastors in the community and their Congregations and hope that this is the start of many shared events in the love of Jesus.”
