After many, many hours of preparation – baking, sewing, beading, cutting, glueing and much, much more, the morning of the Saturday, November 29 arrived and the Christmas Fayre of Christ The King Anglican Church was in full swing in the Jardim das Comunidades, Almancil.

The day was blessed with glorious weather and visitors arrived to find the buzz of a marketplace right next to the lake and spread across the sun-filled deck. Most of the Christmas inspired merchandise on sale was the work of the nimble and creative fingers of the group of Ladies of Christ The King known as “The Church Mice” and the stalls were laden with baked goods, home-made jams and preserves, repurposed Christmas cards, Christmas gifts – jewellery and decorations, Christmas gift packs and all things Christmas.

There were creative activities for children both in English and Portuguese, carol singing around the Christmas Tree, a Christmas Café to keep the strength up and even a visit from Pai Natal with gifts for the children from all nationalities.

Friends old and new gathered in fellowship to start the celebration of the Christmas season and arrangements were made to get together again very shortly for carol services in both Almancil and Tavira and a very special Christmas Service on the beach in Quarteira on Christmas Eve.

“This has been a very special day. It was not by accident that the Fayre was held on the eve of Advent – a time for us all to get together in fellowship and prepare for Christmas and our visitors quickly responded to the warmth of the congregation. Thank you to everyone who came and took part and made this a true community project” said Jo Blackman of Christ The King, one of the organisers of the event.
