Intercessions
14th January 2024
We are gathered here today to worship and adore you.
Our God, we do not need to seek you in a church for you are always with us. You see our every move, you hear our prayers before they are formed, you know what is in our hearts, you are our constant companion as we travel in this world. And for this we give you our eternal thanks as we gather here to sing praise and worship you.
We offer you these prayers in faithfulness through your son Jesus Christ.
Today we bring before you prayers for your Church. We give thanks that the Rev Steven is now with us to lead Christ the King forward into this new year.
We are thankful that we can come together to worship in this beautiful place, and that we can raise up our voices in song with no fear of persecution.
We pray for those Christians in Palestine and Israel that are caught up in a war that makes no sense. Keep them safe and strong in the knowledge that you are with them. We ask for prayers for the Church of the Province of Southeast Asia, you know their needs.

In a world where there is so much war, we give thanks for our safety here in the Algarve. Over a quarter of the world is in conflict, we ask that you send the Holy Spirit to guide and lead the leaders of the world, let them be led by love, compassion and a moral duty to do what is right and good for all of the people.
We pray also for the healing of the world. We pray that world leaders start to understand that there is only one Earth and that we have been given the task to nurture and protect the planet, not destroy everything we touch. Open people's hearts and minds to the beauty that surrounds us, make each and every one of us a guardian of this world.

As we enter into the New Year let us open our eyes, ears and our hearts to the suffering in the local community. Where there is despair, let us bring hope, where there is loneliness, comfort and friendship, where there is a sense of not belonging, a sense of family. We give thanks for all who selfishly give of their time and talents to help those less fortunate.

Our prayer list has many that are suffering from physical and mental illness, and we give you thanks for the many prayers that you hear and answer. We know that in your time you will answer all our prayers and bring an end to all our suffering and heartache. We ask that today and every day we feel your presence and continue in confidence to bring forward our prayers for those that are suffering. Be with those that suffer, let them feel your comfort, gain strength and believe in your healing powers.

God, our Father, you wait for us as you waited for all those that have recently died. For our loved ones, who have departed this world, we pray that they are now with you, we pray that all those on the journey to death may have the faith to know that it is not an ending but a beginning of an eternal life to be spent with you. Be with those that grieve today.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen. .
