Intercessions

21st December 2025

Let us pray in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and the power of God’s Holy Spirit.

Father in heaven as we continue this season of advent help us to prepare our hearts and minds as we look towards the celebration of the birth of Your son Jesus Christ. We thank You that through prayer we can connect with You. Help us to put away the distractions of daily life and hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations. We thank You for the example we have in Mary and Joseph and their obedience to You and the trust they had that their future was in Your hands. Help us to be constantly seeking Your presence and guidance.

O Lord - in this time of advent and the last few days before Christmas we pray for church leaders that they feel blessed as they lead their congregations during this busy time in the church calendar. We thank you for the leadership that we have through Bishop Andy and ACE and for our ministers Rev Steve and Rev Mike and we pray that they have time to be with their families over the Christmas season. We thank you for our lay leaders and everyone who helps with our services each week. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the Anglican Church of Burundi.

O Lord – in this time of advent help us to be mindful of the real meaning of Christmas. We pray that the commercialisation of Christmas does not overshadow the message of love and redemption that comes with the birth of our Lord Jesus. Help to reduce the waste that can be created at this time and use our time, energy and resources wisely. Help us to spread Christmas joy and light to our families, friends and local communities.

Heavenly Father - we know that for some people Christmas is not a time of joy and celebration, but a reminder of loss and loneliness. In these last few days before Christmas help us to see the needs of those around us in a new and fresh way. Help us to share time with those who need a kind word, a phone call or a friendly hug. In this ever changing world we give thanks that Your love for us is constant. We lift before You the many needs of those on our prayer list. And in the quietness of our hearts we pray for those who are dear to us who we know need Your healing touch today. We ask for You to come close to those who have recently suffered the loss of a loved one – a loss that seems amplified at this time of celebrations and families and friends coming together. As they grieve may they know the comfort of Your Holy Spirit.

Heavenly Lord – in these last few days before Christmas we ask You to bless our church of Christ The King and our various services and activities. Keep us safe on the roads as we travel. Help us to keep the true meaning of Christmas in our hearts and minds and may we all have a blessed and peaceful Christmas.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
