Intercessions

25th January 2026

Father God, you revealed yourself to Paul on the Road to Damascus and brought to him the gift of faith in Jesus your Son. We share that faith, and we bring to you now our cares and concerns for the world.

Almighty God, we thank you for this church - Christ The King. Thank you for your word as revealed in the scriptures and thank you for your worldwide church that unites us in faith. We pray for all those who lead, teach and preach in this parish and this church. May they have and the same love and passion for you as Paul and lead us by the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Faithful God, we pray for all who, like the Christians Saul pursued, are persecuted for their faith, that they might be faithful to you even when being ridiculed, insulted and even harmed. Be near them and give them courage and strength as they bear witness to your love, and we look forward to the day when all will be free to shout your name in all corners of the earth.

In this week of Christian Unity, we pray earnestly for unity throughout the Christian Churches, that their allegiance is to you and not to power and self. Today we hold in our prayers the Anglican Church of Chile.
More than ever this week we pray for wisdom, tolerance and understanding amongst the world leaders. We pray that your love and presence be seen visibly in all they do and say. We pray that they remember your commandment to worship no other Gods than you, to love you with all their heart, soul and mind and to model that in all they do and say.

Sovereign Lord, we live in dark and unsettling times where so much anguish and misery is inflicted on people. We know that this is not as you intended your world to be. Lord shine in the dark places of the world, that there may be light and hope. We pray for the poor and oppressed and those who live in war torn parts of the world, for those who have suffered from natural disasters, for places where there is a lack of water, for children alone and afraid, for women forced into slavery. May your Holy Spirit move in the hearts of those in authority, who have the power to make changes for the benefit of all. May the greed and the hatred cease so that we may all live in justice and peace.

Gracious Father, we pray for the Ministries of Christ The King reaching out to all. Help us to discern together how our voice can be heard in our local community, to be sensitive to the needs of others, to meet them where they are and to be a good neighbour. Show us how we can best serve families and young children, the elderly and the housebound, those struggling to find employment and those in debt. In a moment of quiet, please name someone who is on your mind today. By your Spirit, guide them to a place or person who can provide comfort and who will lead them to you Lord.

We pray for Viva worship, for Our weekly Communion Services, our Bible Study groups in Almancil and in Tavira, our small weekly branch groups and we pray for the members of the Christian Nepalese Fellowship. We pray for all who attend and for all who are part of these ministries. We pray for all who are attending church for the first time and for those who are rediscovering the blessing of sharing their faith with others.

We thank you Lord for the team that you have assembled here and who work tirelessly in all areas - we see your fingerprints on every individual. We thank you for the service of our Council, our Prayer Warriors, our Music and Sound Team, our Altar Guild, our Safeguarding Team, and our Media and Communications Team. All who give their time and talents selflessly and with grace. Strengthen and bless them, Lord.

God of Healing, we pray for those who are suffering in body, mind or spirit. We pray especially for all who are frightened because they are ill or in pain, for those awaiting a diagnosis or treatment. Help them to have confidence in those with medical knowledge and who care for the sick. We pray too for those in despair and feel overwhelmed by turmoil and struggle to find meaning in their life. Let them know they are important, that they matter and that they are not alone.

Lord God, Almighty, we give thanks to you for all that you do in our lives. . Lord, as we leave this service, we thank you for the knowledge that you are always with us as we seek to serve you during the coming week. Help us to be your messengers of hope and love.  Help us to put aside personal interests and generously share all the blessings you have given us.  May our lives reflect your glory, and provide glimpses of your love, and as we bring your good news to all the people we meet this week may we continue to trust in your goodness.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
