Intercessions
8th February 2026
Father God, prayer is a mystery; we don't understand how it works, or how our feeble petitions reach heaven. However, we do know that Jesus prayed, and taught his disciples to pray, and that he opened the way into your presence. Help us to follow his example and teaching, and learn to pray more naturally, more readily and more often, and always in His name.
Ever loving God, you love us and know us so much better than we know ourselves. Thank you that through the power of your Holy Spirit you inspire our prayers. Hear us when we pray. When our lives are so full of worries that we forget that you care for us in every aspect of our lives, help us turn those worries into a conversation with you, confident that you will calm our anxiety and give us hope for the future.

Father God, we pray for everyone affected by the recent storms here in Portugal; those who have lost their homes, their livelihoods, and some even their lives. Merciful God we pray this excessive weather will soon end, that the waters will recede, and people can begin to rebuild their lives. Thank you for the wonderful generosity of strangers who have responded to appeals for help, and for the kindness of neighbours who have helped those in dire need. We thank you for the emergency services who have had to work in extreme conditions. Father may the spirit of human kindness overshadow the suffering being felt and may the work of rebuilding what is lost unite all concerned in a bond of love and hope for the future.
We pray for the Presidential elections, that the people of Portugal will choose wisely, and this country will be represented by a new President who cares deeply for this nation and will seek only its best interests on the world stage.

Lord Jesus, we pray for this troubled world, and ask you to bless and empower all who endeavour to bring about peace and an end to wars. Govern the hearts and minds of world leaders to act justly and honestly, to reject hatred and injustice, and to find ways to remove political barriers that hinder greater unity.
We pray for the persecuted, the hungry, the homeless, the widows and orphans. Lord Jesus, you are the hope of the world, bringing a hope for peace and justice for all.

Creator God, thank you for our beautiful world and the wonder of your creation. Help us to be good stewards of everything you have given us, living responsibly in all that we do. Help us to be mindful that we are all created equal in your sight and forgive us, that despite this, there is still so much inequality in the world. Give us hearts of compassion for all the suffering and wrongdoing that is going on, and show us how we can be part of the change that needs to take place. We are your hands and feet, give us the courage to use them to your glory and honour.

Gracious God, we pray for this church of Christ The King; for our leadership in Rev Steve and for all those who help support his ministry here. Thank you for every person that makes our Sunday worship possible, for those that lead ministries during the week, for those who watch over and care for this church family, and for your loving care and protection over us. Guide us day by day to be about your business, in our communities, our workplaces, our homes and everywhere our daily lives take us.

Lord Jesus Christ, we pray for your church around the world. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we remember the Church of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, and in this week's ACE prayers, we lift up to you the needs of The Church of the Living Hope in Milford Haven, giving thanks for the increase in young people attending. We pray the leaders of your church will honour your Word, teach and preach it faithfully, and live lives worthy of their calling. Lord Jesus, strengthen them when they grow weary, and fill them with your boldness and courage.

Loving God, we pray for those who are suffering in body, mind or spirit. In a moment of silence, we bring them before you in our hearts; we pray they are aware of your presence with them and know that you are always working towards their healing and wholeness. Merciful God, comfort those who grieve, and those who may worry about how they will cope in their change of circumstances. Reassure them that you will never leave them to carry the burdens of life alone.

Everlasting God, as you lead us into the coming week, help us to remember that you are close to us, keep us from stumbling, and help us never to disappoint you through our words and actions.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
