Intercessions

17th September 2023

Let us pray:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15 v 13

God of all hope, we pray for that overflowing of hope this morning, for an overflowing of joy and peace that comes not from our circumstances; but in spite of our circumstances. That comes by the power of Your holy spirit who dwells in us.

Heavenly Father we lift our hearts, and the prayers of our hearts, to You today, as we come before You in faith and with hope. We know You are a God who listens and cares deeply for all our concerns, cares deeply about anything that weighs heavy on our hearts. We bring before You now those concerns in a moment of silent prayer.

Creator God we give thanks and praise for all that You have created. For the beauty of this earth and the wonder of creation. We live here in a very scenic part of this world. Give us hearts to look after creation and all You entrusted to our care. Help us to be responsible stewards for the next generation in prayer and action. We pray for the nations suffering from natural disaster this week. We pray for Libya and the flooding that has caused sever damage and loss of life, and the continuing search for survivors after the earthquake in Turkey. Thank you, Lord, for the rescuers often working in dangerous conditions, for the aid agencies bringing relief, and for those who respond with generosity.

We pray for our Church leaders today. Give them wisdom and humility to lead Your people, and courage to guide Your church in all truth and unity in this broken world, which often seeks to go its own way, and not Your way. Father God You never grow tired or weary, and we pray You give Your strength to all who contest for the faith, when they become weary and feel defeated. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean.

We pray for this Your church of Christ The King, and ask You to help us walk faithfully in love and unity. Help us to understand the importance of working together and respecting each other's differences. Show us what You want to do, through us, using every person's gifts and skills, to bring hope to the community we serve, and to further Your kingdom. We give thanks for the oversight of Mike and Linda and wait patiently for the arrival of new leadership. Thank you for Your provision, and we trust You in bringing about all things in Your perfect timing.

Lord of justice and mercy, we pray for a world that has respect for equality, seeks justice, and builds bridges of understanding. We are all created in Your image and yet for some it seems impossible to live in harmony with one another. Lord of the impossible, we pray for the barriers of hatred and prejudice to come down. We pray for respect and a greater desire for understanding between the nations; and often between the different people groups within the nations. We pray for those that feel absolute hopelessness; be their hope Lord. This world is in turmoil and we feel helpless to overcome it. Thank you that we are not alone, that You are the God of all compassion, can change hearts, can end wars and bring about reconciliation, can mend relationships and can heal this suffering world. Thank you that You are a God of miracles and you hear the persistent and passionate prayers of your people. We pray with our brothers and sisters around the world, especially on the International Day of Peace this Thursday.

Thank you loving God that You are our strength in times of sickness and suffering.  Please wrap your loving arms around everyone on our church prayers and all on our hearts this morning. We lift them to You now.

Ease their pain, let them know your presence, give them your peace.

We pray for comfort for those who mourn. Thinking especially of Margaret’s family and Alan’s.

God of miracles, we give thanks for Patsy's healing and pray for further miracles in her life Lord. We rejoice with her and her family.

We stand on your promises in Psalm 91:

"I will rescue those who love me,
I will protect those who trust in my name,
When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honour them.
I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation".

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
