Intercessions

23rd June 2024

Lord God, we thank you for gathering us here today in your presence. We come to you with thanksgiving and praise, knowing you are our Lord God and placing our lives once more into your hands. Guide us by your Holy Spirit so that our worship will be a worthy offering to you.

Father in heaven, we pray for the church family of Christ The King; that our prayer lives and understanding of scripture will prepare us for our journey of faith. Father God, equip us for service to you and the community in which you have placed us, by the power of your Holy Spirit. We pray we will make more links with local groups in this community through outreach and social activities. Give us the vision and clarity that we need as a church; show us the specific directions we should take; give us the courage to experiment and move forward, and please enable adequate resources to do so. We pray that your Holy Spirit will surround us and be within this congregation, now and forever more.

Merciful God, we pray for a world which struggles to live justly and in peace. We pray for those who have to search for daily food or walk long distances for clean water. We remember with sadness those whose lives are cut short by disease or violence, and those who have fled their homes in fear. We pray for those who face persecution and torture with courage and dignity.

As so many countries have elections this year, and countless people will be affected by those decisions; we pray for Godly men and women to be voted into positions of authority. Give them courage Lord God to make tough and probably unpopular decisions; to govern fairly and to remain true to you and your word.

In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the Church of England. We pray that all who preach your word will remain true to the teachings of the Holy Bible. Strengthen them when they come under pressure to conform to the world's ways, fill them afresh with your mighty Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth.

Creator God, we cannot help but have grateful hearts when we reflect on your goodness to us. Though there are times of trouble and sadness, we know you walk with us and that your spirit will guide us through. Thank you for your gracious and abundant love for each one of us; not merited by anything we have done but poured out by a loving heavenly father to his children.

Thank you for this amazing world which you created for us. Forgive us when we don't look after it as we should and help us to try daily to be better custodians of this world. Bless those who strive daily to bring about change; give them voices that will be heard, and those of us that hear, the ready commitment to be part of change and not part of the problem.

Healing God, we ask for your loving compassion on all whose lives have been touched by sadness. We pray for all who are troubled or fearful. We remember those who are waiting for medical exams, a doctor’s diagnosis or an operation. We pray for all who seek healing and bring them before you now in a moment of silent prayer.

We bring before you those in need in our community including the homeless, the hungry, the elderly, the housebound and those in care.

We bring before you a troubled and needy world that needs healing, Lord.

Father God, we are grateful for the love, grace, and fellowship we experience as your family. Please guide our steps as we go out into the world; may we reflect your love and unity in all our words and actions; spreading your message of salvation, love and grace, to everyone we meet.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
