Intercessions

10th December 2023

Let us pray:

We bring before you, our God, our prayers for the world, for the church and all his people.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your son, Jesus Christ, to hear us when we pray in faith.

As we continue in the Advent season and our lives become full of to do lists and must attend events. Let us pause and close our eyes and remember the true meaning of this season, a season of meditation and preparation, a promise of salvation.

We give thanks that you are our shepherd and our guide, you show us the way. The path we follow is not always the right one but you guide us back with your love and patience. We ask for your forgiveness of our trespasses.

Today we pray that as the leaders of your Church cry out your message of hope and salvation that it does not fall on deaf ears. Open the hearts and minds of all who hear it.

We give thanks for the guidance of Mike Starkey over these past few weeks.

Heavenly Father, as Steve, Veronica, Ayla and Zelia make their final preparations to join us, comfort any sadness they may be feeling. We do not know them well but we are waiting with arms open to embrace them and make them a part of your family here at Christ the King and in the Algarve. Give them safe passage here.

We pray for the Church of Pakistan, keep them safe from persecution now and always.

Sovereign Lord, we know that you are the one true leader and we trust that as you see the wars and destruction that are happening all over the world you are at work to bring equity, healing and justice to all your people.

We pray for a peaceful resolution for the people of the Holy Land, for Ukraine and all the other countries where war rages. We pray for world leaders to work towards peace and to assist humanitarian organisations to reach the people that are in dire need of help.

In our communities we give thanks for all the charities here in the Algarve who work tirelessly to ease the burden of those less fortunate than us. We pray that with your help your glory may be revealed in the way we live our lives and serve you.

At this joyous time we pray for those suffering ill health, either physical, mental, spiritual or emotional. Let them be touched by your gentle tenderness, bring them comfort and strength. May those suffering loneliness and sadness find a way to feel joy and know that Jesus, their friend and comforter is always at their side.

For those grieving at this time of year, whether it is the first Christmas or one of many, let them remember that in your eternal Kingdom their loved ones are forever safe and without pain, in a place where there are no tears or suffering.

We offer up our prayers for our dear friend David Mitchell and pray that his family knows that we are with them in spirit, although we cannot be with them physically.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
