Intercessions

11th August 2024

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.

Father God, we give thanks for the past week, for the food on our tables, for the beauty of the world around us and for any ways in which we saw You at work in our lives or in those of others.                                                                                                                                                                                                Almighty God, we pray for the needs of the world particularly where there is war and persecution, where lives are governed by greed and people are blind to your love. We especially pray this week for all those people who have been victims of the racist threats and violence that has been happening in the UK. We give thanks that thousands of people stood up against this and showed love and solidarity with all the diverse people that make up their communities. We celebrate the richness that coming together with people from different countries and cultures brings and our church is a wonderful example of this.

We celebrate the fact that the Olympics and other sporting events enable people from many nations to meet and participate together.

Let us remember our friends in different countries of the world.

We pray for the church worldwide and particularly this Sunday for our diocese ACE. Bishop Andy has asked that we pray for our brothers and sisters in the other congregations in our diocese. Churches that are scattered far and wide in Portugal, Spain, France, The Netherlands, Germany, England, Wales, Scotland and soon to be Ireland. He asked our prayers for Jonathan Middleton, to be ordained presbyter in St Silas, Glasgow, and a church which will be inaugurated in Leipzig. Bishop Andy asks our prayers that the structures created in ACE will enable the Gospel to reach far and wide in Europe.  In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray our brothers and sisters in the Anglican Church of Korea.

We pray for the communities in which we live, for all those spending their holidays here in the Algarve, for those who have to work hard in the tourist industry. Keep people safe and respectful of those they encounter whether they are on holiday or providing services. We pray that people will reach out to you during their time of relaxation while they have more time for their own thoughts. We give thanks for all those who have found their way here to Christ The King to share in our worship.

O God our loving Father we bring before you all those known to us who are in pain of body, mind or spirit. Their needs are known to you, and we pray that you will minister to them and help them to know you are there. We give thanks for answered prayer and pray for all those on our prayer list.

We name before you anyone in our thoughts today.

God of life, we pray for those whose earthly lives have ended; we pray for those who have died violently and tragically, suddenly and unprepared. We give you thanks for lives well lived and happy memories.

As we go out today, we pray for all members of our church family who will be travelling somewhere this week that you will keep them safe.

We give thanks for all that St Paul has taught us in his letter to the Ephesians these past few weeks. Help us to ponder on these truths and recap ready for us to move forward with our Vision in September.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
