Intercessions
11th May 2025
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
As we approach the throne of God in confidence, we pray for the whole people of God, for all who are in need, for this amazing world. Father God, we pray you will open our eyes to see your Son Jesus, alive, present, and powerful today. Open our hearts and minds to understand the depth of his love for us.
Gracious God, look down with love on this church of Christ The King, as we seek to be a body worthy of your Son’s name. Guide our clergy, warden and council as they focus on the vision you have given them and strengthen them in every task ahead as they lead your people toward your plans and purposes. We pray particularly for the Alpha Course and the 24 people that met together on Monday. Please bless these meetings. Bless the friendships being formed. Bless those leading. Give your wisdom in all situations; and we pray that by the power of your Holy Spirit, a knowledge of you will bring new followers into your kingdom here on earth.

In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Provincial Office of Nippon Sei Ko Kai in Japan. Lord, we pray for your blessing on your church in Japan, the work of your church, and pray that more people will come to know you as their Lord and Saviour.
We pray for the entire Church worldwide, that it will be a light in dark places. A beacon of hope to the poor and suffering, to the persecuted and marginalised. A voice for those with no voice.
We pray for the new Pope Leo X1V. Father God may this Holy Man lead and unite the global Catholic Church with all wisdom and authority. We pray he will be a true man of peace, uniting and building bridges toward reconciliation and reform.

Creator God, we bring before you this world; the world that you created and made us custodians over. With climate change and the wilful destruction of both land and seas, we don't seem to be doing a great job right now. By the power of your Holy Spirit, we ask you to guide those in all positions of leadership and decision making. Open their ears to hear the truth from climate experts, and to bring about changes that can still have a positive effect if implemented now. Instil in us a desire to do our part to care for this beautiful part of creation.

God of peace and unity, we pray for this world and the places where war, hatred and terrorism, cause untold pain, suffering and destruction. We lift up to you the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, between Israel and Palestine. The internal conflict in Sudan and Myanmar, and many other places. Lord this world needs justice and peace, everlasting peace; the kind of peace and justice only you can bring. The nations need to be united, law and order restored. Lord hear our prayers for this broken world and bring your healing.
We pray for Portugal and the current President and Prime Minister as they prepare for elections next Sunday. We pray the right man or woman will be elected as its leader; a leader whose political party can unite and ensure fairness for all, justice for all, and continued peace for Portugal.
We pray for our communities and our neighbours, our friends and those we connect with on a daily basis. May your light shine through us. Teach us to love them as you love them.

Healing God, we pray for those who are in need of healing. Those known personally to us and those we pray for in our church prayers. We pray they will be aware of your presence with them in their time of weakness and distress. We bring them before you now, in the quiet of our hearts, as your spirit guides.
Compassionate God, surround all who mourn with your love and comforting arms. We pray grief will not overwhelm them. Surround them with loving family and friends to comfort and console.

Father God you have called us to follow you. As you hear our prayers, make us faithful in responding to your call.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
