Intercessions

4th May 2025

Let us pray for the Church and for the world and let us thank God for His goodness.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.
King of kings, we come to you with praise and thanksgiving for all your gifts. For the gift of music to praise you, for all you give us day by day and for being in our lives.

We pray for your Church today, gathering all around the world in tiny churches and great cathedrals, to praise you, to hear your Holy Word, and to meet you in bread and wine. Give us a sense of expectation as we come and inspiration as we go. Help us to put our differences behind us and to unite instead behind the great commission of Jesus to make disciple of all nations.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for our brothers and sisters in the Church of Ireland and we pray for all those in three ACE Churches in Dublin: Christ Church, Immanuel Church and the Iranian Gospel Church.  We also ask you to bless the music and ministry of the Belfast Community Gospel Choir that many of us enjoyed this weekend.

We pray for Rev Steve’s ministry here at Christ the King and today we pray especially for the Alpha Film Series starting tomorrow, and for all who are taking part. We pray that you will touch their hearts with the knowledge of your love and your desire to have a personal relationship with them. Help them to know that you, Lord, are the difference maker.

We pray for a world that struggles to live justly and in peace. We pray for those who have to search for daily food or walk long distances for clean water. We remember with sadness those whose lives are cut short by disease or violence, and those who have fled their homes in fear. We pray for those enduring persecution and torture that you will be with them and give them courage and dignity.

We thank you for the beauty of our world which you have created; for the abundant wildflowers all around us now. We pray for all those people working to slow down climate change and we ask you to inspire world leaders to make the correct decisions so that the amazing wildlife you have created will survive. We pray for those who work to care for the natural world and particularly for the work of A Rocha, the Christian environmental centre here in the Algarve.

We pray for the community in which we live and particularly for those who are going through times of trouble: some perhaps in our families, some in our church or in our wider circle of friends and acquaintances. We know you to be both Lord and healer of your broken world, and we ask you to touch with your generous love all those who are on our hearts today because of their special need. We name them now out loud or in our hearts. May your love flood their lives and meet their individual needs with hope and healing, in spirit, mind and body.

We pray for all those souls who have left this earthly life and moved on to be with you. We thank you for the lives of those known to us who have left their mark on our lives by giving us love and laughter. We hold them in our hearts, knowing that you, Lord, hold them in yours. We pray for all those who have lost loved ones recently and we lift them and any others known to us into your presence. Give comfort to the bereaved and grant them courage and strength to face each day and the hope of a new dawn.

Lord, you appeared to your followers in person soon after your resurrection and they were able to record these events to enable us to know you are alive. Touch the hearts of all your children so we may have the same certainty of your presence in our relationship with you.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
