Let us Pray : You Kingdom Come
Heavenly Father we lift up our voice and our hearts to thank you for your unending love and the blessings you give us each and every day. As we look around us now we thank you for your gift of creation. We thank you for our Church and our Community, our family and friends and we thank you in your infinite patience and knowledge you have brought us all together, a totally disparate group as one family to worship you today.

Jesus Christ our risen Lord. We pray for everyone who bears witness to your resurrection and ascension, those people who speak of your presence, for preachers of the word and ministers of the sacrament; for those who simply reveal your presence by the way they live. Today we pray for all who deny you, are doubtful of you and for all who are seeking you. We pray that during this time of preparation between your Ascension and Pentecost our prayers for those who do not yet know you, will open up their hearts and their minds to want to know more. We pray for unity in our churches and in the world and especially today we prayer for the Anglican Church in Burundi.

Jesus Christ our Risen Lord, we are so blessed that we are here in your house to worship, sing your praises and pray in your name. For so many, this is not possible. The war in Gaza and the war in Ukraine mean that life for many is about surviving, and foraging daily for food, water and medicine. In Iran the Christian’s celebrate in secret and face prison and interrogation if they are found out. And in so much of the world where conflict has fallen off the front pages we pray for peace. We pray for all those who want to worship but life for them is just about survival. Let them know the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

Thank you, Lord, for our homes, schools and communities here in the Algarve. Thank you for our church family, our families, our friends and all the support we have around us. We know our living God. We bring before you today those people that are lonely, depressed or ill. We pray that they will see your light and feel the warmth and comfort of your Holy Spirit in their lives. We pray for the charities and groups, community services and the various organizations that try to reach out and identify those at risk.

Heavenly Father. We look despairingly at the behaviour of our World Leaders, at the people with wealth, and power and influence, those who govern, those who negotiate, those who finance and those who advise. We pray that they will use their power with fairness, understanding and compassion for all people. We pray for leaders with a strong moral center to be raised up and set an example of your goodness in the world.

Loving God and Lord of life, we pray for those friends and families on our prayer list. We pray for those we know that are facing unbearable struggles just to get out of bed and face the day. We pray for the gift of courage to face up to and cope with illness. We pray for it for ourselves, and for those who we now name before you quietly within our hearts.
We thank you for those who through their courage have come through illness and for those facing the reality that there is little light at the end of their earthly tunnel. We pray, Lord, that you will walk with them, holding their hand and when the pain overcomes them – call them to where they will no longer feel any pain.

Lord this week we patiently prepare for the great comforter that you promised us, and we look forward to welcoming the Holy Spirit here at the Church in the Park next Sunday. And as we look forward to the week to come, we pray for courage and confidence as we step out to spread the Good News of your love.
