Intercessions
14th July 2024
Let us pause and in a moment of silence prepare our hearts and minds to bring our thanks and petitions before our Lord and Heavenly Father.
Let us pray
Heavenly Father Thank you. Thank you for the blessings you give us every day. Thank you for opportunities and for the strength to make the most of them. Thank you for being our guide through difficult times and for giving us the courage to face whatever comes our way. Life often presents us with a myriad of choices each carrying its own consequences, but we know that you love and support us unconditionally, and that you are an ever-present source of comfort and hope. Thank you, Father.

Heavenly Father we stand before you and marvel at the awesomeness of your love and power. Here in the Algarve we are reminded every minute of that power and scope of your creation, and we thank you and praise you for delivering us to our home Christ The King.
We thank you Lord for guarding and guiding, refining and redirecting our skills and talents and shaping us to serve you in a fast-changing world. We thank you for the strength and courage which led us 17 years ago this weekend to step out in faith and form the church that has become your instrument. We pray for your guidance in the days ahead, we pray for the presence of your Holy Spirit, and we pray for you to hold our hands and show us your way forward in building your kingdom
Thank you for the team that you have assembled here. We thank you for our Ministry Team, our Lay Leaders, people who give their time and talents selflessly and with grace, and for those who are the eyes, the hands, the legs, the feet of this church and for all our brothers and sisters who join together to worship you. Today in the Anglican cycle of prayer we pray for the Church of Ireland and the 350,00 souls in their care.

Lord, we thank you for your generosity, for all the good things you give us, We thank you for our food, and our comforts, and remember all those who do not have enough to eat. For the children who get up hungry and go to bed hungry at the end of the day, and for those who rely on food banks for one simple meal a day.
Lord bless those who work tirelessly to help. For ASCA and Refood, for the Soup Kitchen in Portimão and the local catering companies who provide food for those have none or very little. We pray for the homeless and those who depend on the charity of others. Help us to share our bountiful harvest with others.

Heavenly Father and Prince of Peace forgive mankind for their selfish behaviour throughout the world. We hold our collective breath as we watch events unfolding on our Screens in the middle east and the centre of Europe. We pray for the innocents caught up in all this oppression, destruction and sheer rage. We pray for all those who are persecuted because they have accepted you as their saviour. We pray for the people who are caught up in slavery, the sex trade and people trafficking throughout the world. People who are caught up in absolute misery and danger because of their location and race.
We pray for wisdom, compassion and courage from our World Leaders and a genuine desire to work towards the greater good for all people. As we pray, we are mindful of the words and commandment you taught us while you walked among us – Love one another the way that I have loved you. Open the hearts and minds of those involved to bring good to the world and not evil. Inspire us not to stand by and watch but to recognize injustice and act against it.

Lord, we ask for your blessing on our families, our friends and neighbours, and on those who are sick and those who are failing. We raise up before you the people within our congregation and people on our prayer list and the people in our hearts who need your healing touch and the comfort of knowing that you are there for them – walking beside them. Hand in hand. We ask for strength and courage for the people who can only stand and watch their loved one’s struggle illness and we pray for those we love, who we longer see in our midst, those who have been gathered into your presence and called home. We name them now silently in our hearts.

Merciful God, we thank you for your promise to hear our prayers. Strengthen our faith in that promise so that our lives might shout to everyone we meet of your love, mercy and goodness.,
And when the challenges of life threaten to overwhelm us, help us remember Jesus’ words: “Take courage. It is I. Don’t be afraid..”
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
