Intercessions
7th July 2024
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and grief to bear.
Mighty risen Lord we proclaim Your majesty and might as we come before You with our prayers for the needs of our world and everyone in it. Open our eyes Lord to help us to see You more clearly. Quieten our hearts that we might take time to be in Your presence undisturbed by the busyness of our lives. Open our ears Lord to help us listen to Your voice as You guide our daily lives. Help us to be like the apostle Paul boasting of the blessings You give us Lord – even in the hard times when we feel all is hopeless and we feel weak and helpless, for that is when we have to rely on Your strength Lord and that makes us strong.

We thank You Lord for everyone who has made it possible for us to worship here today in our temporary setting at ASCA. We thank You Lord for the relationships and co-operation that we have with the staff at ASCA, Almancil Junta and Loulé Câmara. We thank You Lord for the teams of people who set the Church up each week and make our services possible – those who put out the tables and chairs; our sacristans; our welcomers; our musicians; our intercessors; our minister; our technical team and anyone whose job I may have forgotten – may everyone involved find a blessing in the jobs they do. Churches everywhere rely on volunteers to run them, and we pray that Your blessings will be outpoured each time they meet. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the Church of the Province of the Indian Ocean.

You are Lord of all nations, and we pray that your blessings of love and peace may be known to all people everywhere. Sometimes Lord it’s hard to know how to pray for difficult situations and our words seem inadequate but you know our thoughts and feelings and desires, and You can turn those into prayers. We pray for peace in areas of war and conflict. We pray for wisdom and compassion for government leaders that they will put others’ needs before their own. We pray for a fairer world where everything is shared equally irrespective of race, colour or creed. We pray for families that have lost everything due to circumstances over which they have no control. May all nations and leaders of nations come to know You as their Lord and Saviour, Christ The King.

Lord, help us to remember that wherever we are and what ever troubles or triumphs we are encountering You are there beside us – even if we don’t always realise or acknowledge Your presence. Help us to be aware of the feelings of those around us and to appreciate that maybe not everyone is feeling as positive or upbeat. Thank You for being a God of healing for the sick and the anxious. We pray for those on our prayer sheet, our prayers groups and those known personally to ourselves. Thank You for being a God of comfort for the lonely and the bereaved. Thank You for being our friend and companion.

We ask Your blessings Lord for ourselves as we go through this coming week. Help us to be mindful of the needs of those we live with and those we meet out and about. Help us to spread Your message of love and hope.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
