Intercessions
16th March 2025
Let us bow our heads as we come before our Lord and Father in prayer. Just as the Psalm writers did, we call out to You with thanks and praise in our hearts that You are a God who loves us and listens to our prayers.
O Lord of life we thank you that through the death and resurrection of Jesus we can have eternal life. As we continue our time of Lent help to understand the full reality of the sacrifice that Jesus made on that cross. May our journey through Lent give us a new and closer relationship with You, our God. We pray for Christians worldwide that their faith may be strengthened each day through the power of Your Holy Spirit. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Church of the Province of Central Africa. We pray that the ministers and their congregations have many opportunities during this time of Lent to share the good news of the Gospel and the life, love and hope it contains.

O Lord of creation the vastness of the universe is beyond our comprehension. You know and care for every aspect of it because You made it and yet in that vastness our tiny planet and everyone on it is known and loved by You. Thank you, Lord, for the recent rains here in the Algarve that are helping to refill the reservoirs. Help us all to take greater care of our world and the areas in which we live. This planet of ours can enable us all to have sufficient food, water and somewhere to call home but sadly the world’s wealth is not shared equally. Help us all to overcome that inequality in whatever way we can. Even one small deed of sharing and caring by one individual can make a difference and gladden Your heart. We pray for governments and political leaders to govern with truth and compassion in their hearts and actions and to put the needs of others before their own desires and ambitions.

We pray for ourselves, our families and friends. We pray for those who are in need of healing – whether it be physical pain, mental turmoil, emotional trauma or lowness of spirit. There is so much need of healing in our world today, but we believe in the healing power of Your Holy Spirit. We probably all know someone we care about who is in need of Your healing touch and so in the quietness of our hearts we lift them up to You Lord. Open our eyes to the needs of those around us and show us how we can help them. An encouraging word or a warm embrace can make a big difference to someone’s day.

Comforting Lord we pray for the families and friends who are mourning the loss of a loved one. Bring comfort to all who are remembering friends and relatives who have passed away – both recently or some time ago. Time can ease the pain of loss but our memories of those we loved can hopefully one day put a smile on our faces and in our hearts.

We give thanks for the life of our church – Christ The King – here in the Algarve. We ask you Lord to bless all our weekly activities – our branch groups, our mid-week services and our social get-togethers. We place ourselves and this coming week into your hands Lord.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
