Intercessions
17th August 2025
Let us pray for the Church and for the world and let us thank God for his goodness.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.
We pray for the life of the Church, for our church leaders and all who make our times of worship possible, we pray for the ministries of Steve and Mike. We particularly pray that Steve and Veronica, Ayla and Zelia will have a relaxing holiday as they explore other parts of Portugal. Lord, keep them safe and give them an enjoyable time of refreshment.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the people, the clergy and the mission of the Scottish Episcopal Church.

Lord, we pray for the needs of the world. We pray that world leaders will come together in a constructive way to bring about ceasefire and put an end to the wars that have been raging. There are so many places where your children suffer at the hands of others or as a result of natural disasters.
We especially pray for all those caught up in the warzones around the world, floods in Pakistan, and fires in Portugal and other European countries. We pray for those who have been killed or injured and those who have lost family and friends.
In a short time of quiet let us pray for any situations on our hearts today.

We pray for aid workers who risk their lives every day to bring relief, medical treatment and hope to people in far flung corners of our troubled world, giving thanks for their commitment and dedication. We pray for medics and firefighters and all who risk their own lives in the care of others. Give courage and support to those caring for their fellow human beings and those working hard to distribute food to the starving. Help them to put their trust in you and take away their anxiety as they bring help to others.

We pray for young people who have received their exam results this week and those still waiting to receive them. Whatever the results help them to face their futures with positivity embracing what lies ahead with courage and determination. …let them see the path to turn to you.

Heavenly Father, we pray those who are in special need of body, mind or spirit. We pray for those who are ill in hospital or at home and those awaiting examinations or treatment, for patience and prayerfulness. We pray for people with major decisions to take, for wisdom and clarity of thought. We pray for people known to us with private battles and challenges to face. Let us now bring them before you mentioning their names out loud or in our hearts.

We pray for those who have died especially those members of our own families and friends we will see no more. We pray for all those who have died this week and any known personally to us. We pray for anyone who has died this week alone or unloved knowing that you love and care for each and every one.

Finally, Lord in this holiday season we pray for all the people here on holiday in the Algarve that they will return to their homes refreshed. We also pray for all those people who make their living from the tourist industry that they will be able to earn enough, in this difficult financial time, for the year ahead. Lord, bless human relationships, encourage people to turn to You and to respect one another in their leisure time and on the roads so that all may return home safely. Lord, bless us on our holidays and bring us back refreshed and renewed to seek your will and to live our lives to your praise and glory.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
