Intercessions

1st June 2025

We pray to our Father God in heaven in the knowledge that through His Son Jesus our prayers will be heard. As Christians we delight in the fellowship we have with Christ and our fellow believers. Thank you, Lord, for the privilege of being able to meet to worship You, here in Almancil. As we sing our hymns and say our responses may the sound reach out into the park and bring others in to share in our worship and learn of the Lord’s love and salvation. We give thanks and praise to our risen Lord Christ as we remember His ascension into heaven to sit at the right hand of God. And we wait in anticipation of the celebration of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit of God descended onto the disciples giving them power and authority to work miracles in Your Holy name and strengthening their faith as they lived each day as followers of Christ.

We pray for your church worldwide and rejoice in the knowledge that at any given time somewhere in the world the Lord’s name is being proclaimed and glorified. We thank you that through our Christian faith we have fellowship with Christians everywhere, and wherever we go in the world we have that common bond. We pray for church leaders that their congregations will support them in the difficult task of leading a church. We pray for congregations to be united by your Holy Spirit and that the light of the risen Lord will shine through in their daily lives and reach out into their local communities. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Anglican Church of Korea.

Risen Lord – we pray for our world and all the varied abundant life that calls this planet home. We marvel at your creation Lord, not just our planet but the whole universe; a creation that we cannot fully comprehend nor understand, because of its vastness. And yet you care about each of us individually. You sent Jesus to redeem the world to bring harmony to all people and nations and the whole world in which we live.  Help us all to be better custodians of our world – to share its resources fairly with everyone who has need; to treat everyone with respect irrespective of who they are. We pray for a peaceful world without war, greed, selfishness and hate. We long for Your return Lord so that all creation is restored to harmony. Help us Lord never to give up praying for a better world for everyone.

We thank You Lord for being a God who cares about all aspects of our lives. We pray for healing in body, mind and spirit both for ourselves and those we love and know who are in need at this time.  We thank you Lord for the scientists that help develop all sorts of medication and treatments to help with illness. We thank you Lord for doctors, nurses and carers and all workers in the medical profession who help us when we are ill. We pray for the easing of aching bodies; for those feeling anxious or afraid to know peace of mind; we pray for the lonely and disregarded that they will feel Your presence and know that they are not alone. And we pray for those that are awaiting medical appointments and results that they will know the peace of mind that comes from knowing an awesome God who heals.

Risen Lord – we thank you for the hope that we have as Christians that death is not the end but the beginning of new life with You our risen Lord. We pray for those who have lost someone dear to them in the last week or so. Grief can affect us all in different ways, so we pray for comfort and peace of mind to those who are bereaved at this time. Help us always to be mindful of the feelings of others and to give comfort where we can.

In an uncertain world where things change from day to day, we thank you Lord for being the one constant in our lives on which we can totally depend. Be with us all during the coming week and bless our varied activities. We thank you for our church family of Christ The King and the blessings we get from being part of it.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
