Intercessions
23rd July 2023
Let us pray:
We come together today to lift up our praise and thanks to you, our Father, Lord of Heaven and earth with joyful hearts.
Let us bring before the God of peace our prayers for the world, for the church and all his people.
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your son, Jesus Christ, to hear us when we pray in faith.
Father, we give you thanks that we are able to come together to praise and worship You in this beautiful place. It is easy to feel your presence here. We ask that we continue with this feeling and remember that you are always with us.
We pray for the military chaplains the world over. We give thanks for their presence in places of war and conflict and also the help they give to those who are suffering from the effects of combat. We pray especially for Father Joe Wingo.
We give thanks for the presence of Rev. Greg and his wife Meredith. We pray that in his retirement God opens many doors for him so he can share in his wonderful understanding of the Gospels.
Though we do not know their needs we pray for the Church of the Province of Central Africa.

Creator of all, we give you thanks for this incredible world, this lush and green place that we are lucky to call home. Unfortunately, the world is suffering from the effects of greed. Many try to make the world a better place but there are many that profit from the misery and destruction of this amazing bountiful planet, for which we are the guardians. We pray that the Holy Spirit enters the hearts of those that work for the good of the planet, that lift up the poor and downtrodden. We pray also for all those that profit from misery may they see the light and know the error of their ways.

Loving God, we consider ourselves to be your children, we are one family. Let us extend this love to others, let us give hope to those in our communities that are suffering. The summer is a joyous season but for many here in the Algarve it is a time of hard work, low pay and little down time. Let us be patient and kind to those around us for we know not their suffering.
We give thanks that so far this year Portugal is relatively free from wildfires. We send up our prayers for all those fighting fires in Europe and in Canada and may the loss only be material and not human or animals. May the wildfires soon be extinguished.

Healing God, we pray for all those on our prayer list. We give thanks for the doctors and medical staff that took care of our treasured member Susan Minnis and we ask for full recovery for her.
We pray for better understanding of mental health issues. Give us the words to say that will help a person, who is suffering and maybe cannot explain what they feel.
Give us greater patience, compassion and the ability to comfort those that are ailing.

Abba, Father, we are all one day closer to being with you. We give thanks for the lives of those that have recently died. Though we continue to grieve, may we accept that life is difficult and not all can show the love they have for their families, many leave it too late to reconcile. Give us the strength to make the first move to mend broken bridges, let us reach out in love.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
