Intercessions

23rd November 2025

Heavenly Father, on this feast day of Christ The King we come before you humbly, with prayers for those who need your help and to know your presence, prayers for our world, prayers for our local community and prayers for our church.

Heavenly Father, Lord of the past and the future: we thank you for all the good things that have happened during the past Church Year. We thank you for our Ministers Steve and Mike and our lay leaders, and for the fellowship and joy of our worship together as a community and for all those who have worked so hard to run and maintain our church here in the Algarve.

Father, we pray for all Christian churches throughout the world as they meet to worship and praise you. We pray for those who cannot meet in the open for worship, for Christians who are persecuted and for Christians who are exploring their faith in you. We pray for unity throughout the Christian Churches, that their allegiance is to you and not to self and we pray for wisdom, tolerance and understanding amongst the world leaders. May your love and presence be seen visibly in all they do and say. And today we hold in our prayers the Anglican province of New Zealand and Polynesia

Father, we pray into the mission of our Church. We pray for you to unify us, to equip us and send us out to share your love and truth through the power of the Holy Spirit

Lord, we pray for the Ministries of CHRIST the KING reaching out to all communities, all ages and all charisms. We pray for Viva worship, for Our weekly Communion Service, our Bible Study groups in Almancil and in Tavira and we pray for the members of the Christian Nepalese Fellowship. We pray for all who attend and for all who are part of these ministries. We pray for all who are attending church for the first time and for those who are rediscovering the blessing of sharing their faith with others.

Father, we lift before you our Branch Groups and their leaders. This coming week is the start of the Advent studies in all our small groups. We pray that this special time of study prepares everyone for the wonder of the birth of Christ. Father,  send your spirit to be with them and rest with them as they gather to read the scriptures and hear the word. Help them to grow in their love and understanding of your mercy & grace and bond together in a Christian community to support and encourage each other.

We thank you Lord for the team that you have assembled here and who work tirelessly in all areas - we see your fingerprints on every individual. We thank you for the service of Our Council, our Prayer Warriors, our music and sound team, our Altar Guild, our safeguarding team, and our media & communications team. All who give their time and talents selflessly and with grace. Strengthen and bless them, Lord.

Lord, we raise up to you those people who are on our prayer lists who are sick or in need. Wrap your loving arms around them Lord and bring peace and healing to their lives.

Creator God, today we bring before you a broken and hurting world, full of people who are fearful and anxious, a world where conflict abounds; a world where millions are suffering starvation, homelessness and fear, a world where some national leaders appear more concerned with their own interests than those of the people they are called to represent.  We know this is not how you intended the world to be, and we pray for your Holy Spirit to come in power, to bring hope, peace, reconciliation, justice, equality, and healing.  We ask you show us how we can help through our words and actions.

Lord, we remember those who have died. We pray for their loved ones who are left behind to grieve. Help them to draw comfort from the Holy Spirit and the fellowship of their church family and we thank you for your promise of eternal life for those who put their trust in your Son Jesus.

Lord God, Almighty, we give thanks to you for all that you do in our lives.  At the end of this church year, we commend to you all those for whom we have prayed throughout the year and ask that you continue to use us and our prayers to make a difference in their lives. Lord, as we leave this service, we thank you for the knowledge that you are always with us as we seek to serve you during the coming week. Help us to be your messengers of hope and love.  Help us to put aside personal interests and generously share all the blessings you have given us.  May our lives reflect your glory, and provide glimpses of your love, and as we bring your good news to all the people we meet this week. May we continue to trust in your goodness.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
