Intercessions

28th October 2023

Father God, thank you that You are here with us this morning in the power of Your Holy Spirit.

Thank you, Jesus, for all You have done at the cross; You reign on high today.

However, we come this morning, however we feel,  Father thank you these things are true;
    You reign,
    You are alive,
    You love us,
    You love us just as we are.

We pray that our worship this morning, our praise, the reading of Your Word, the teaching we have received, will help us to glorify Your name in this place, and in the community, You have placed us.

Help us to reflect You in our daily lives to our families, friends and neighbours.

Help us to be light in the darkness.

We pray for our world this morning, thinking of all the places where there is conflict and war; where there is suffering and persecution. We pray Your Word in Psalm 33, that you would indeed 'foil the plans of the nations and thwart the purposes of the people'. We pray that 'Your plans will stand firm forever'.

Nothing in this world is a surprise to You Lord, but that doesn't mean it doesn't grieve You to see man's inhumanity toward man.

Lord may Your light shine in the darkness of war and conflict, and the darkness of suffering.

Lord, we lift our eyes to You, the maker of heaven and earth and we pray for a miracle; let Your peace fill Israel and Gaza. We pray for an end to the violence. We pray for an end to the killing of innocent people; an end to all bloodshed. We know Your heart breaks for those killed; for the injured, those now made orphans, those abducted, and those desperate for safety.

Lord, we give thanks that aid workers, food and medical supplies, have now been allowed into Gaza. Please protect the brave people who risk their own lives to drive the trucks, provide medical assistance, and offer comfort and relief where they can.

We pray for all parts of this world where there is unrest and conflict. Lifting them to You in a moment of silent prayer.

We pray for those parts of the world where there is famine and drought;

We pray for the persecuted, the marginalised, the oppressed;

We pray for courageous men and women, unafraid to speak up and be the voice of the people who feel they have no voice.

We pray world leaders will stand together for justice and freedom.

Lord Jesus we pray for Your church, its leaders and Your people as they witness to the communities around them; being salt and light in a world where there is much discontentment; bringing hope and a knowledge of Your saving grace, Your love; and proclaiming the unchanging truth of the Gospel in an ever changing world.

We pray for this Your church of Christ The King. We thank you for watching over us, guiding us, providing for us and growing us into the family we are today, and the family we hope to be in the future.

We thank you for the many blessings that You pour out on us, so that we can bless others in Your name,

We give thanks for those who have led and continue to lead us spiritually. We look forward to Steve and Veronica joining us in just a few weeks and pray You will be there to guide them in all their plans and preparations.

May we always be seeking to show Your love in this community by our acts of kindness, our hands that care, and our words that bring comfort.

In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Anglican Church of Melanasia and the countries of Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Eastern Indonesia, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. Lord bless the work of Your church in these places and make it fruitful for Your kingdom.

Lord, may Your church truly reflect the great love that You have for us all.

Lord, we pray for those who are sick, those in need, the homeless, the lonely, the bereaved.

We pray for the addicted, the unloved, the poor, and we pray for any who are suffering.

May they know Your presence through the love of those around them.

In the final verses of Psalm 33 we read, 'We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His Holy name.

May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
