Intercessions

5th November 2023

We rejoice in Your strength, Lord.  How great is our joy in the victories You give!

Dear Heavenly Father – we thank You and praise You as we come together in the beautiful setting. Psalm 23 promises that You will lead us by still, still waters – what a blessing this park is to our church of Christ The King. Help us all to feel safe and comfortable in this place as we bring our praise and worship before You Lord. As we continue to meet here each week located in the middle of this community in Almancil may we be a witness to the visitors to the park. Let them be curious to know who we are and what we are doing and give us the chance to share with them our faith and Your love.

We thank you for the rain of the last few weeks which has refreshed the land, reduced fire risks and is beginning to refill the rivers and reservoirs. We pray for areas where weather has wreaked havoc and destruction – houses and businesses flooded; homes and buildings ripped apart. We pray for anyone affected by natural disasters that they find somewhere safe to stay whilst order is being restored. We pray for areas affected by fighting and civil unrest. At the moment media attention in centred on the conflict between Israel and Palestine - such a tragic situation in an area that we read about in our Bibles -  but there are so many conflicts worldwide. Praying for peace sometimes feels like an uphill battle. But no prayers are ever wasted so help us Lord to never give up on the hope of peace and unity.

Lord of power and might –we pray for governments and leaders everywhere to have compassion and understanding for the communities in their charge. Not to be looking for self-gain of prestige and wealth but to have a desire to help improve the lives of the people who have put them into a place of power and authority; to give everyone the opportunity to live and work in a safe environment and provide for themselves and their families. We thank You Lord for the council in this area of Almancil and our close associations that we have built up over the years – for the help they give to us and the help that we can give in return. We pray this partnership between them and our church will continue long into the future.

God of healing – we thank You Lord for being interested in our everyday lives – for wanting the best for us both physically and spiritually. We all have worries of our own as well as family and friends in need of prayer and healing. In a moment of quiet we lift before You those in need – whatever that need may be. Bring them and us a sense of Your presence and the comfort of Your healing touch. We pray for those who are going through a time of bereavement and ask that Your Holy Spirit will help them through the coming weeks and months as they come to terms with their loss. We think especially of the family and friends of Cyril – a friend of Ann – who passed away this week.

Dear Lord - we go into a new week not always knowing what each day may bring. But we do know Lord that You are with us each step of the way. Thank You that we are part of a worldwide community of Christian believers and that at any point in time somewhere in the world Your Holy name is being lifted high. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for La Iglesia Anglicana de Mexico. Today is a special day in the church of Rodrigo Cavalcanti as they celebrate the inauguration of their new church A Igreja Anglicana Tenda. We rejoice with them as they move forward into a new chapter of their lives and pray that they will be a strong witness in that area.

Be with us all Lord in this coming week and help to take advantage of the opportunities that come our way to share our Christian faith with others.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
