Intercessions

31st August 2025

Philippians Chapter 4 verses 4 and 5 remind us to 'Rejoice in the Lord  always .......The Lord is near'.

Lord God our Heavenly Father, we come before you today in the greatness of your love and lift up our hearts in prayer and praise. It is right to give thanks and praise, but so often we forget to do so.
Help us to pray simply and sincerely, unselfishly and gratefully, remembering the needs of this world as well as our own, and giving thanks for everything in your holy name.

Lord, we pray this morning for your Church of Christ The King; for its people, its leadership as they teach and preach your word, and all who serve in this place. Thank you that your word reminds us that we are of great value to you, and that you care about every detail of our lives. Thank you, Lord, for blessing us, and we pray for your continued blessing as we move forward in faith, to bring your kingdom here in this place. Keep us centred on your word and faithful to acknowledge you to everyone we meet. Lord, help us to see people as you see them, through your eyes.

Lord Jesus, we pray for all the people who make up your worldwide church, giving thanks for the growth of the church, and the knowledge that many young people are seeking the Christian faith. We pray that those in positions of trust will honour and respect that trust. We pray for unity among Christians as we work together to spread the message of hope to a world in despair.
Lord Jesus where your church is challenged because of war, famine or any other difficulty, we pray you will strengthen those who grow weak and tired and bring courage and boldness to those who face persecution and danger.

Lord, we pray for Bishop Joseph who is working in Spain planting churches for ACE. Lord, we pray you will guide him and bless him in his work. Bring the workers to help and build your church. Bring the people who need to know you Lord Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. Bring the people who need to find a place to worship where the gospel is proclaimed in truth.

Creator God, we thank you for entrusting us with this amazing and beautiful world. Especially here in the Algarve, where most of us have chosen to make this our earthly home. As we face an environmental crisis and the destruction of natural habitat, give us hearts that want to become involved in finding a solution and not staying part of the problem. Give us an urgency to act now in whatever way we can, give us hearts that seek change, believe change will make a difference, and will act for change.

God of compassion, we pray for this suffering world; for those who long for peace in conflict; for those who long for an end to poverty, sickness and hunger; for those who seek justice. Please guard and guide all who work for peace, justice and reconciliation, often in what seem impossible situations. God of the impossible, we pray 'Your Will be done'.

We pray for the nations, each with its own economic and social problems. For world leaders, praying they will work together and take action to end war and its suffering, defend the defenceless, the weak and displaced, coming together in unity.

Thank you for your Son’s perfect example of how we should live and treat each other. Help us Holy Spirit to be good imitators of Him. Teach us Father to love each other as you love us.

Merciful Lord we lift to you all on our hearts for prayer. You know each one and you know their needs. We know you have the power to heal; to heal broken lives; to heal the sick; to heal the broken hearted.
Thank you that we can trust in you, and that every one of our prayers are heard by you and answered by you. In a moment of silent prayer, we bring them to you now. Thank you for your grace, mercy and loving-kindness.

God set our hearts on fire with fresh desire for you. Expand our hearts to love you more, stretch our minds to understand you more, and equip us increasingly "to answer everyone who asks us to give the reason for the hope we have in you".

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
