Intercessions

4th February 2024

Everlasting God, thank you for welcoming us in love, and we ask You to hear us as we prayers for Your church, the world and for all in need.

We thank you for this new day; a day set aside to spend in your presence; a day to be among our church family, to be with friends and loved ones. We give thanks for the fellowship we have together here in Christ The King. Fill us afresh with the Holy Spirit who enables us to love one another as You love us; to minister to each other's needs, and the needs of the community we serve. During this season of team building and vision seeking, we pray that we will be open to Your will, even if that means change, as we travel on the journey You have for us. Please bless the future of this, Your Church, and all who visit here.

Mighty God, we pray for the worldwide Christian Church in all its wonderful diversity. We pray for all who preach your word, inspire, lead and grow us as disciples, as we reach out to those in need in our communities and in our world.  We pray especially for those churches who meet together in difficult and dangerous circumstances. May they feel your mighty presence and be encouraged and strengthened in their faith. In the Anglican cycle of prayer, we pray for the Anglican Church of South America.

We pray for Rev Steve and Rev Mike as they lead our Church Council retreat tomorrow. Open all our hearts and minds to seek and know Your will and Your plans, for this Your church. Holy Spirit renew our hearts and minds and unreservedly have Your way.

Lord God of every land and nation, we pray for our troubled world, its peoples and their leaders. We pray for those caught up in war, and violence, and hatred, especially the innocent victims of these evils. We pray that peace and righteousness will flourish, that injustice and wrongdoing will be met with justice and fairness. We pray for those who are hungry and sad; for those who are homeless and cold; for those who are lonely and frightened. May those who are caught in every kind of worldly problem, find comfort among others in their time of need. Guide our world leaders Lord to have compassion, and help these people find food, shelter, warmth, comfort and safety from whatever brings them harm and suffering. Bless the peacemakers and make them fruitful in their endeavours.

Creator God, we thank you for entrusting us with this amazing and beautiful world. Nowhere is it more in evidence than here in the Algarve. As this world faces many problems such as the destruction of natural habitat, pollution and climate change, give us hearts that seek to be part of the solution and not to continue to be part of the problem. Renew is us the desire for change, a belief that change is possible, and the will to act now.

Healing God, as we gather here this morning, we think and pray for those who may be sick or suffering in some way; those too ill to be here with us; those who are in hospital, those in care. We bring them before you in the quiet of our hearts. (Pause).  We have many on our prayer list and offer each one to You now in a moment of silent prayer (Pause). We often feel we would like to do more to help, to fix what we can't, and find solutions where perhaps there are none. Show us Lord how we can come alongside, and just sit for a while; hold a hand; comfort and console, and love as You do.

Jesus Christ you are the light of the world, a light no darkness can quench. We remember those who have died and their families who mourn.

Please turn their darkness into light; into your light and bring them peace and comfort.

Lord God we pray for ourselves as we go from your house today to start the week ahead. We ask that in all we do, we may walk more closely with you at our side, safe in the knowledge that Your Fatherly love and care knows no bounds. We pray for courage to witness to our faith, to be Your hands and feet wherever Your love, peace, comfort and rescuing are needed. We pray for more of Your joy; the joy of the Lord, asking that it will be more and more evident in our lives despite sometimes our own poor circumstances. Teach us to have greater compassion; to reach out and go the extra mile. Open our eyes Lord to see where You are at work and go meet You there.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
