Intercessions

9th July 2023

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.

Lord of heaven and earth we thank You for Your creation of this beautiful world and the many gifts You bestow on us each day. Help us not to be brainwashed by the extravagances of society. Help us to take positive steps to lessen the negative impact our actions could have on the equilibrium of our planet.

We give thanks that Amazon deforestation is down by a third this year and we pray the goals to cease deforestation by 2030 will be accomplished.

Father God, we ask You to inspire world leaders to lead their countries in ways of peace and with consideration for all their citizens. We hear daily of so much pain and anguish being caused around the world by mankind. We pray for the ordinary people, for people being put in the position of being forced to kill and maim others. In a moment of silence let us pray for the people of Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Syria, Palestine, North Korea, France and any of the other places on our hearts today, that war may cease and peace reign once more.

Father of all we pray for Your church here on earth. We join together with our brothers and sisters worldwide in so many different places, numbers and situations with different languages, ideas and ways of doing things but united by our faith and love for You in Christ Jesus.

We especially pray today for the Anglican Church of Burundi and the New Beginnings Church in Lakeland, Western Australia.

We pray for the Gafcon Primates’ Council, for the new Chair Laurent Mbanda and Vice-Chairs Miguel Ochoa and Kanishka Raffel, for the General Secretary Ben Kwashi and for the Positive impact of the Kigali Commitment.

We pray for Bishop Andy, Rev Philip, our church family and Christian people everywhere as we all endeavour to share the love of Jesus and our faith with others.

Loving Father, during this hot weather, as the land becomes drier, we know this leads to higher fire risks across the Algarve and beyond. We ask your protection on all the Bombeiros firefighters who put their lives at risk to protect others.

The summertime brings more people onto our roads, children are on holiday from school but many parents have to work more in the tourist industry. Lord, keep the children safe and we ask Your blessing on all those in our communities who work to care for others in holiday care, ambulances, hospitals and all other caring professions. May they be aware of Your care for them and the rest that only you can give.

Lord, you said ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ We pray for all those we know and who are on our prayer list who are sick in body, mind or spirit.  Be with them and help them to be aware of your comfort and love through the words they hear and the people they meet.

In a moment of quiet we name before You anyone we particularly want to pray for today.

Lord in Your mercy

God of life, we pray for those whose earthly lives have ended; we pray for those who have died violently and tragically, suddenly and unprepared.

We give You thanks for lives well lived and for happy memories.

May they rest in the eternal peace of heaven.

Lord in Your mercy

Lord, you said ‘For my yoke is easy and my burden is light’. Help us to remember this and to turn to You when things don’t seem so easy. Help us to yoke ourselves to You as we bring Your love to those we meet. Please give us Your strength in the power of the Spirit to live and work for you this week.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
