Intercessions

"Hosanna to the Son of David.
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord,
Hosanna in the highest".
Lord Jesus, we remember today, Palm Sunday, your triumphant journey into Jerusalem. A journey that began with shouts of adoration and ended in rejection and a cruel death on a cross.
We are all on a journey, all in different places along its way. Some people are on their journey not knowing you as their Lord and Savior. Some know you but have strayed away.
We pray for those who are making a personal journey back to you, and we ask the Holy Spirit to be their guide. Please strengthen and equip all of us in our service to you; to be salt and light in this community, and in the wider world. Jesus our Saviour, you came to seek and save the lost; give us a passion to share your love with those who don't know you. We know we walk with the risen Christ; we journey with you Lord Jesus. We welcome you into our hearts today; King of Kings, fill us with your peace.
Hosanna in the highest.
Lord Jesus, as your church moves into Holy Week, and towards Easter, we think of those parts of this world where there will be great processions and re-enactment of the Easter story, and other parts where fear of persecution will mute any outward show of faith. Lord, we pray for the worldwide church at this most holy time of year, especially those who serve tirelessly and without fear for their own safety, in order that the Gospel can be proclaimed to all who will listen.
We pray for this your church of Christ The King, that we will be beacons of light; your light in us; and this will draw people to you. Lay on our hearts those we can invite to share in this week's services. We pray the story of your life, death and resurrection, will touch and change their lives in a powerful way.
We pray for the leadership of Rev Steve, for our lay leaders, and all in our ministry team; for our church council and everyone who serves faithfully in this place. We pray this will be a place to find friendship, inspiration and guidance, and above all, a true faith in your Father, our Father in heaven.

Lord, we pray for peace, justice, mercy and forgiveness in this world, especially in those parts of the world where conflict persists and there is much suffering.
Bless the peacemakers because we know "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God". Jesus you are the Prince of Peace. In a world of chaos, anchor our souls in your unshakeable kingdom. You were a victim of injustice and persecution at the hands of those in authority, please embolden those who seek justice and mercy, and may they find courageous people in authority willing to bring about change and fairness to all.
Give us hearts that seek justice and peace, and opportunities to be a voice for the voiceless whenever we can. Lord Jesus, you wept over Jerusalem. Break our hearts for what breaks yours and fill us with compassion for the lost. Help us to bring peace and joy into the lives of the people we come into contact with - our families, our friends, our neighbours and the wider community.

At this time of year it is easy to see the beauty of the world in which we live, especially here in the Algarve. Please give us hearts to care for it and do more to protect it; to be good stewards of all you have created Father God, and to be supportive of organisations in conservation and care of the environment. We think of A Rocha here in the Algarve and ask for your blessing on their work and finances.

As we look ahead to your suffering Lord, your anguish, pain and despair, we know you understand the pain and suffering of those we pray for and lift to you at this time.
We pray for the sick and the lonely, the heartbroken and those facing uncertain futures. We pray for them now in a moment of silent prayer.
As we have named them in our hearts, we pray they will feel your presence, know your peace, and know they are in your loving care.

Heavenly Father,
Prepare our hearts for the cross and the resurrection this coming week. May we never forget the price for our salvation. Show us how we can offer ourselves to do your work, to live out the message of the cross:
Our feet to go where you send;
Our eyes to see as you would see;
Our tongues to speak as you would speak;
Our minds to be ever attentive to your will;
And our hearts to both reveal and to share your love.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
