Intercessions
17th November 2024
In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ, let us pray to the Father.
Heavenly Father we thank you for the much needed rain of this past week filling cisternas, reservoirs, rivers and aquifers. Water is essential for all life on this planet so help us to remember how precious it is and not waste it. Water can bring us joy and pleasure when we use it for water sports and activities, it teems with thousands of life forms, it provides us with food and drink but it can also be very destructive. Let us pray for those suffering as a result of flooding: people who have lost loved ones, their homes and possessions. We also pray for those suffering from a lack of water in many places in the world.

Lord of all, we look at the world and see so many places where countries and their people are forced into conflict with their neighbours, where greed and corruption prevail, where violence happens every day and communities are traumatised. This was not your plan for mankind and we ask you to encourage world leaders to let You rule in their hearts and bring peace and respect for other human lives. Help all those traumatised by war and conflict to know you are there and that they can experience your peace in the midst of their suffering.

We pray for the Christian church throughout the world especially giving thanks for our church of Christ The King and all those you have brought here to join our church family. We pray for all who minister to your people, both lay and ordained, that they respect those in their care. Inspire all Christian people to live lives pleasing to you sharing the example Jesus gave us. We ask for protection from the schemes of the evil one.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the Anglican Church of Southern Africa

Father, on this Sunday closest to International Men’s Day, we pray for the men of the world. They carry burdens that they tell no one about. Please help them find a sympathetic ear, someone who will not tell them to “man up”; someone who will not belittle them for feeling or crying; someone who will not use their weakness against them. Most of all make them understand we would rather hear their problems than their eulogy; would rather see their tears than their coffin.

Lord of life we give thanks for new lives, for babies born this week. We bring before you those who are sick in body, mind or spirit. Those who are on our prayer list and any known personally to us whom we name before you now aloud or in our hearts.
Lord in Your mercy

Hear us as we remember those known to us who have died this week. We pray that they rejoice in new life with you. We give thanks for their lives and ask you to comfort those who grieve. Bless them with quiet sleep and supportive friends.

As we go out into the week ahead we pray that there might be opportunities for us to share our faith with others who don’t know you yet. Be with us by your Holy Spirit to give us courage and help us find the right words that will inspire people to want to find out more about you.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
