Intercessions

10th November 2024

Maker of all that is in Heaven and on earth we gather here today in Remembrance for all those that have lost their lives fighting against the tyrants of the world, against the evil that lives and dwells among us.

We come to you today in faith knowing that you hear our prayers and we give you thanks for all that is good in this world. We remember that Jesus told us: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised thorough your son, Jesus Christ, to hear us when we pray in faith.

Let us pray for all those that have lost their lives fighting for a better world. Lord grant them eternal peace and let the loss of their lives be not in vain. In the present day we live in a world that no longer fights wars for justice and good. Brave men and women lay down their lives in the hope of peace, yet their lives are lost for profit or the interests of others. We humbly ask that you send your Holy Spirit to guide and lead those in power to teach them that love is the greatest commandment and to follow a path of righteousness and justice is the way to make a better world.

We ask for peace in the world,
Lord grant us peace.

We give thanks for all the chaplains and priests, who work closely with the military service. They have chosen an arduous task to bring light to the darkness of war, to bring healing where there is only suffering, to teach of the love of Jesus where there is hate.

In the Anglican cycle of prayer we pray today for the church of South India.

We ask for peace in the world,
Lord grant us peace.

How great is the love for one another in war torn communities, which are being destroyed and yet somehow still manage to support each other during difficult times of injust conflicts. We give you thanks for all the aid workers who put their lives at risk to bring food and medical supplies to those in need.

We ask for peace in the world,
Lord grant us peace.

We pray for healing for all those that are suffering because of war, whether it be physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual. For all those that wait to hear of a loved one or wait patiently for peace to be restored. We ask that they feel your healing love surrounding them. We pray also for all those on our prayer list. We give thanks for the hospitals, medical staff and medications that we are so fortunate to have at hand.

We ask for peace in the world,
Lord grant us peace.

We pray for all the lost souls, who fought and died that we might live. How many have died and will die to give us a chance of living in a peaceful world. We give our thanks for their sacrifice. We continue to grieve for those family members that we have lost due to war, lest we forget we say out loud or in our hearts their names.

We pray for an end to war, to the greed and hate that fuels it. We give thanks for the beautiful world you have given us, your constant presence in our lives and your promise of eternal life We pray for Heaven on earth and we wait patiently, Lord.

We ask for peace in the world,
Lord grant us peace.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
