Intercessions
21st September 2025
Heavenly Father we come before you today with grateful hearts – thankful that we can come together with our church family of Christ The King to worship You and share time together with those we know and love, those we don’t know so well and a welcome for those who are new to our service today. By sharing time with Matthew – a tax collector - You showed us by example that everyone is welcome to the house of the Lord. Help us to be as inclusive as You were during Your time here on earth. As we pray for the needs of our world unite us through the power of Your Holy Spirit that Your will may be done here on earth.

We pray for Your church worldwide as it teaches of the love and grace that comes from knowing You as Lord and saviour. We pray for church leaders and ministers as they preach and teach. In our church here we give thanks for Bishop Andy and our ministers Rev Steve and Rev Mike for their leadership. We give thanks for all those involved in setting up and helping with our service each Sunday and enabling us to come and worship here in this place. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the Province of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan. We pray for peace in that area and blessings on its people, churches and leaders.

Heavenly Father we pray for the world in which we live. Help us each day to see the wonder of Your creation and to take nothing for granted. In a world where there is so much hatred, greed and injustice help us to also see the places where there is love, sharing and community spirit and to give thanks for those working for a better fairer world. We pray for Portugal as it enters the last few weeks before its local elections. Help all candidates to have the needs of their communities in mind as they seek election.

We thank you Lord for the dedicated men and women of the emergency services who respond to fires, floods, road accidents and many more hazardous situations. Many are unpaid but yet are still willing to put themselves in danger to go and help those in desperate need. We thank you Lord for the nurses and doctors in our hospitals and communities. We pray for those in need of healing – for those in physical pain; for those feeling anxious and finding daily life a struggle; for the lonely who feel no one cares about them; for those struggling with mental illness; for the bereaved whose lives have been changed by the loss of a loved family member or friend. May they all know the comfort of the healing touch of Your Holy Spirit.

We ask Your blessing Lord on everyone who is with us here today, sharing in our service of worship and praise. Some of us may speak a different language to the person sat next to us but we can all share in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ for He is the embodiment of the love that God has for us. Help us and equip us all to share this gift of God’s love with the world both near and far.
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
