Intercessions

27th April 2025

Heavenly Father, as Jesus appeared in the locked room to show his disciples the beginning of a new world, draw us closer so that we, like Thomas, can examine the wounded hands and feet of Jesus in order to know and understand the depth of his love for us. Open our hearts, and minds as we approach the throne of God in confidence to pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, and for all people according to their needs.

Heavenly Father, look down with grace and love upon our church - Christ The King here in the Algarve. Help us to be a worthy Body of Christ and a people full of joy, singing alleluias to our risen Lord and King. Be with the clergy and laity as we focus on spreading the Good News of the Gospel as we give thanks for the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the church of the Province of the Indian Ocean.

Lord in Your mercy

Heavenly Father, we raise before you our world, especially praying for peace, reconciliation and healing in all places of war, hatred and division. We pray that the nations of this world may be united and subject to the rule of the Risen Christ, through whom and for whom all things were created. We pray for the government and people of Portugal as they prepare for local and national elections. We pray for world leaders to govern with compassion and fairness, following the example set by Christ Jesus.

Healing God, we pray for all who are sick in mind, body or spirit, and for all who are in hospital or facing medical tests and diagnoses. May they be aware of your presence in their times of trouble.

Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer

Loving God, surround all who mourn this day with your continuing compassion. We pray that grief will not overwhelm those who are bereaved or turn them against you. When grief seems never-ending, help them to take one step at a time along the journey of death and resurrection. We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ, of the Roman Catholic Church, as they mourn the death of Pope Francis.

Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer

Lord Jesus, you have called us to follow you. As you hear our prayers make us faithful in responding to your call. As disciples of Christ help us to follow your example as we live, work and interact with friends and neighbours each day.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
