Intercessions

27th August 2023

Let us pray.

As we come together in prayer let us centre our thoughts on God, let us open our hearts and minds to hear what he wants us to hear. He knows our concerns even before we do, he knows our needs and our frustrations. We offer up these prayers in faithfulness through your son, Jesus Christ.

Blessed Lord, we pray for the church worldwide. We give you thanks for the opportunity to come here to meet in the park, in this beautiful place. Many are not so fortunate and have to worship you behind closed doors, in secrecy. We confess that we could do so much more to share the word of God to those that have not heard. We ask you today to give us the courage to go forth and speak of the wondrous things your son Jesus Christ has done for us. We are your church, let us praise you every day in openness and share your word with strangers.

We give you thanks for sending us Geoff Price and his wife Hope. We are so thankful to add them to our family and hope one day they will return to us again.

We join with the Anglican cycle of prayer to pray for the church of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hu.

Holy one, we know you, we know that you sit enthroned above all others. We know it must pain you to see so much suffering and destruction in the world but many of us feel helpless to make a change. With your help we can do great things so Lord, God empower us to fight against injustice, hatred, racism and all the evil that we see in our daily lives. Send us leaders that have the heart of Jesus, that walk in his path of goodness and righteousness. We pray for a change in the way the governors of the world lead us.

Father of all mankind, let us share not only in our material wealth but with our hearts, let us give love to those who find only hatred, kindness to those who are treated meanly, joy to those that feel there is nothing to be glad about and hope to those on the edge of despair. Let us build a community of love and acceptance starting from today.

Everlasting God, you give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. We ask that you strengthen and empower all those that are fighting illness, whether it is physical, mental, or spiritual. Comfort and guide those that find themselves in a position of carer, let them be patient and understanding in their caring.

We give thanks for the many miracles that we hear about, especially Alana may she continue to grow strong and recover fully.

We also pray for Maree.

Creator God, we live in the faith that when we die we will see you in all your glory and that our suffering will be finally over. We pray for all those that have recently died that they are now free from pain and that they will never more be weary or faint.

Wrap your loving arms around those whose grief is recent, who still grief for a loved one that died a long time ago. Grief is but an expression of love for those that have gone before us.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
