Intercessions

Lord Jesus, it was you who taught us to pray, you who gave us the model prayer we know so well today. Thank you, that through you we have access to the Father’s heart in prayer; thank you that you intercede on our behalf to Him.
Lord, when we pray, we know you will answer us in your perfect timing; and we thank you. We might not always understand the answer, but we thank you and trust you, knowing you only want the best for us and those we love and care for.
Thank you that when we pray, you give us your peace; a perfect peace which is beyond our understanding, and in spite of our circumstances; Your peace that guards our hearts and minds.
Lord Jesus, we pray that our prayers will be pleasing to you; we pray they will open doors to healing; bring hope to a suffering world, and reflect your love in your church, this community and the wider world.
We know that if we want to see change, it begins with prayer.

Hear our prayer
Creator God, we thank you for this day and the opportunities it brings. Open our eyes to see you in the world around us, in the beauty of nature, and all you have created. Help us to be good stewards of this world and to do our part in seeking to restore everything that carelessness and greed has destroyed. Give us a passion as your church to be part of the solutions to environmental problems; not turning away as if we don't care. Give us hearts that care for every aspect of this world you have entrusted to us.

Compassionate God, we pray for peace in the world, bringing before you the troubles of all the nations including the war-torn and the world-weary. Pour out your blessings on communities seeking to rebuild their lives in peace and hope; guide and protect refugees fleeing from war and persecution in their homelands, and direct our world leaders to strive for justice, peace and equality in their lands. We pray for peaceful negotiations to have positive results in countries where people are suffering. Raise up leaders Lord who have integrity, wisdom and compassion to lead. Thank you to all who seek peace and work tirelessly to achieve it.

Hear our prayer
Gracious God, we pray for your Church throughout the world, for the renewal of the Church in faith, love and service. We give you thanks for the gift of your Word, and the fellowship of your people. We pray for the worldwide church that it will bring hope and light into places that often see only hopelessness and darkness. Lord God your love reaches down through all eternity; make us bold as we reach out in the power of that love and in the name of your son Jesus.
We pray for the churches of the Algarve and pray you will inspire their leadership and grow their congregations. Make them beacons of light, a force for good works, and a place of refuge and safety.
We pray for our leadership; for Steve and the laity of Christ The King, and ask you Loving God to watch over them, guide them in all things, and give them discernment in nurturing, growing and caring for your people.

Hear our prayer
Merciful Lord, we pray for those in need of our prayers today. We pray for the sick and suffering and all who care for them. We pray for those who will find today long and hard; You know their personal struggles and fears. We pray for everyone on our prayer list; each one known to you. We lift them to you now, in a moment of silent prayer, asking your Holy Spirit to intercede on our behalf.
We know merciful Lord that you work all things to your glory and our benefit. Help us to trust and believe that our prayers are safe in your hands.

Lord, we close our prayers by praying with Justin Welby when he prayed "Gracious and generous God, you became poor so that we might be enriched by your love, and you gave the world's wealth and resources as a common inheritance of all human beings. We pray you would strengthen your church to be a beacon of hospitality to the poor and needy".
Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
