Intercessions

29th December 2024

Father God, We find ourselves nearing the end of the calendar year. Slow us down from rushing to the flip the calendar. Help us to use this time wisely… Seeing each day as a gift is what you ask of us. For the gift of this day, we thank you. For the gift of this year, we thank you. For the gift of our lives, we thank you. Even when life isn’t going according to our plan, we thank you for walking with us and supporting us. Thank you for the best gift of all – the Birth, Life, death and resurrection of your son Jesus Christ. Make us aware of your presence this week, help us to remember that the Christmas story did not end in the stable but continued as Jesus grew into a man, and as 2024 draws to a close and a New Year begins and with it the next chapter of our lives, help us to grow in faith and wisdom to recognize your presence with us in all we do and say.

Almighty God, we pray for Christians throughout the world, and particularly for those who are persecuted because of their faith in you. We ask for your protection for them, and strength and guidance for all individuals and organizations that seek to help them. We pray that you continue to strengthen Christ The King Anglican Church that we may be united in prayer and in practical help and support for one another. We pray for courage, wisdom and guidance to stand up for our faith when it is challenged. Inspire our ordained and lay ministers and our Council to lead and guide us all in our ministries as we go into 2025, and we ask for your guidance as we seek to do your will and serve people in this parish during the coming year.
And in the worldwide Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for all leaders and their families and especially this week for The Episcopal Church.

Loving God, creator and preserver of all mankind, we pray for people of every race, and in every kind of need: we pray for you to make your ways known on earth. We pray for all nations, leaders and organizations that are striving to find peaceful solutions to the wars, the famines the natural disasters and the hardships that are taking place in many parts of the world.
In  a moment of silence, please pray for any country that is on your mind today.

Loving God, we pray for all who are suffering in body, mind or spirit. May their pain be eased through your healing grace and give them the strength to endure their problems. Comfort them with your presence and help them to hold on to the knowledge that your Son Jesus understands the pain of human suffering. In a moment of silence, please pray for one person you know who needs God’s healing power today.

Faithful God, we pray for those whose hearts have been saddened by the death of someone close and dear to them, for members of our families who have died and whose anniversary we recall. For those who find Christmas difficult because of the memories of departed friends or those who are estranged. We ask that you fill them your peace and joy and that they connect with you and fellow believers at difficult time.

As your Son said – Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you – not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid. Help us to experience the comfort of the Holy Spirit within us, and the fellowship of the church family around us until we are reunited once more in your heavenly kingdom.

Faithful God, we give thanks for all that you do in our lives. As the year ends, we hold before you all those for whom we have prayed throughout the year and ask that you continue to use us and our prayers to make a difference in their lives. As we look forward to the coming year, we know that you will continue to supply all that we need for our daily lives, and we thank you for everything Christmas means and for all the traditions and celebrations that come with it.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
