Intercessions

2nd November 2025

In Christ alone our hope is found – He is our light, our strength and our refuge. Let us remember those words as we come before God with our prayers for today. Help us Lord to lift our worries up to you and to leave them in Your hands. In an ever-changing world we thank you Lord for being the one thing in our lives on which we can depend. A true and ever living, ever loving God who cares about us and every aspect of our lives.

Lord as we come together on this All Saints Sunday, we remember with gratitude all the saints who have gone before us – men and women of faith in Christ through countless generations. Help us to follow their examples of faith and perseverance, giving us the same strength and fortitude, so that we too may be an example to others, passing on our own legacy of faith in Christ for generations to come.

We pray for our church here of Christ The King and we thank you for our ministers, Rev Steve and Rev Mike and our Bishop, Bishop Andy. We ask you Lord to bless our services and all who enable them to go ahead each week – lay readers, Eucharistic ministers, readers, tech team, music team, prayer team and all those who help to set up and put away each week. We thank you Lord for the worldwide Church in all its diverse forms, united by our Christian faith. We praise you for all the different cultures and customs and types of services stretching right round the globe – lifting Your name in praise and worship and sharing ministry of Your Holy word – The Bible. As ministers and priests lead their congregations, we know that Your Holy Spirit unites us all wherever we are and however we are meeting. Fill us all with a new sense of Your presence and strength. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we pray for the Church in the Province of West Africa.

We pray Lord for the world in which live and this planet which we call home. We praise you Lord for the whole of Your creation of which we are just a small part. But we have a big part to play in looking after the areas where we live and the people who are our family, friends and neighbours. Help us to see the needs of those around us; to always look for the best in each other – to encourage and give help where needed. We pray for those who have plenty to be generous in sharing with those who have very little. We pray Lord for all those affected by hurricane Melissa and the devastation that has been caused. May help and relief come quickly to that area and all areas where there is need due to adverse weather conditions. We long for a world where hunger and poverty are no more, where neighbours live peaceably with each other despite differences in beliefs or culture. But this will only be achieved in Your time and with Your strength Lord. We pray for Your Kingdom to come here on earth.

We pray for ourselves, our families and friends. We pray for those who are feeling in need of healing, solace and comfort. May the presence of Your Holy Spirit bring comfort and healing to all those feeling pain, loneliness or despair at this time. You know everyone’s needs Lord. Help us to be patient when we feel our prayers are not being answered and to remember that You know what is best for each of us. We pray for those who are feeling the loss of a loved one – whether it be recent or a long time ago. Bereavement takes many forms, and grief can last a life time catching us by surprise at the remembrance of times gone by and those we have lost. Thank You Lord for the comfort those around us and Your Holy Spirit can bring.

As we go through this coming week, we ask You to bless our various activities in our home and work life and our various church groups and meetings. Enable us to be a listening praying church doing Your will here in the Algarve. Show us the work that needs to be done and equip us to be Your hands and feet sharing the love, grace and forgiveness that only You can give.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
