Intercessions

9th February 2025

We come before you today, oh Lord, in gratitude for you as our creator. We thank you for the beautiful world around us, the sound of the birds singing and the warm rays of the sun shining through our windows. Help us to be good stewards of the precious world you have given us to care for and to protect. We remember the many places in the world that have been devastated by fires, floods, earthquakes and other natural disasters. Bring the necessary resources to rebuild these communities. Provide them with hope is these difficult times.

We thank you for how you have made us at Christ the King - each with our unique gifts and talents. Please, by your Spirit, help us use these gifts to build up one another, whether it is teaching, as Steve and branch group leaders perform weekly, or leading worship, praying for healing, encouraging others at the various weekday gatherings, leading services and for the many other gifts represented here today. Give us more opportunities to share Christ’s love with those we meet in the community of Almancil and further in the Algarve. As you, heavenly Father prompt us, make us bold to respond to people with practical care, love, and hope. May your character be revealed in us and them.

We pray for the nations, leaders and peoples of this world. We live in troubled times with war, famine, and the many injustices we hear about on a daily basis. We pray particularly for the USAID, and other aid organisations, that provide medical treatment, communications, and other supportive roles in places of great need. Provide new funding and resources to those countries now cut off from the the finance that have in the past been provided.

We pray for the displaced people of Goma and the Sudan, and the safe hostage release in Israel and Gaza. We ask that you would provide the resource of doctors and staff for medical help, food and water delivery, shelter, clothing and schooling greatly needed. Give the leaders wisdom to bring about reconciliation and peace. Give the church and its leaders opportunities to shine Christ’s love, healing and mercy in their various communities. In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for the Anglican Church of Australia.

We pray for those in need of healing and who suffer from pain and ongoing medical conditions. Give them courage, hope and a sense of your presence with them. We pray for the care givers who walk alongside the patients, providing much needed emotional support, guidance, and practical help. In addition, bring people to encourage and support these caregivers as they daily manage their own emotional and physical needs.

Particularly this week we pray for those living with cancer. Lord, give the doctors the wisdom to find the right treatments to heal.

In a moment of silence pray for those who have ailments known to us or are in need of physical, mental or spiritual healing.

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
