Intercessions

2nd June 2024

INTERCESSIONS for 2ND JUNE 2024

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, you promised through your Son Jesus Christ to hear us when we pray in faith.

We thank you that you created this beautiful planet for us to live on and at the same time you considered our other needs. You created us with minds, skills and talents to work, invent things, provide homes and food, but you also modelled that we would need time to rest, time to recognise and reach out to you in worship, thanks and praise.

We give thanks that we are able to meet together here today to do just that. Help us to find time for you every day and especially to observe the Sabbath and keep it as a holy and special day for you.

Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer

Almighty God we ask you to guide your people and to inspire us with the desire to put aside our differences as we seek to serve you. Help us to reach out as the Body of Christ to all who remain outside, especially those who feel unworthy or too sinful. Give us through your grace opportunities to invite them into our fellowship so that they may taste and see that the Lord is good.

Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer

We pray for the church and Christians worldwide. We pray for Bishop Andy and his family, as he copes with a huge workload, asking your blessing on the formation of the new diocese in the Anglican Network in Europe of which we are a part. We pray for Christ The King, for Rev Steve and the Church Council as they seek your vision for our church as we move into the future. In the Anglican Cycle of prayer we pray especially for the clergy and people of Iglesia Anglicana de la Region Central de America as they bring the gospel into their communities.

Lord in Your mercy

Creator God, we know that we are part of the problems that the world faces, and we know that wherever there is resentment between people there will be tension sometimes leading to war.  We pray that those who lead us and the other nations of the world will always try to solve issues in a peaceful way, and intervene in the world’s conflicts with forethought and common sense. At this time many countries are facing elections to decide who will lead them into the future. Raise up people into these positions of authority who will govern wisely for the benefit of all

Gracious God we pray for our children and young people as they near end of another academic year. Be with those who are beginning important examinations at school and university and those starting new lives in the world of work. Help us, through our Christian life to create a society where both young and old, gifted and less able feel valued and proud to be a part of society.

Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer

Gracious God, we pray for all those who are afflicted by physical, emotional or mental illness.  Comfort all who care for the mentally ill. Be with them, we pray, through the lonely watches of the night and the narrow tunnel of their pain and grief. Help them to keep their eyes fixed on you and give them the courage to face the trials and temptations that may come. Especially we pray for those on our prayer list and any known personally to ourselves whom we name in a time of silence.

Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer

Merciful God, your love reaches beyond the grave and so we bring before you those whose earthly life is now at an end. Receive their souls into your kingdom, we pray, that redeemed by grace they may be forgiven for their sins, rest in peace and rise in glory.

Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer

And so Heavenly Father help us to walk in your ways this week, not to become obsessed by material things that society bombards us with every day, but instead to remember to turn to you to give you our attention, thanks and praise as we notice the wonders of creation and how you are at work in our lives.

Lord in Your mercy
Hear our prayer

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.
